Maintaining a healthy life for your dogs and cats through regular baths and a balanced diet.

Hi world! My wife and I have only been in business a short time but we have been working in the field with dogs and cats for 10+ years. Our passion in life is to help owners and their pets to maintain a healthy, happy life. Diet and exercise are extremely important roles in health but, proper grooming is essential as well. The skin is the largest organ! Everything that we and our pets touch go into their bodies. When we do not maintain proper grooming habits with our pets this can lead to a whole host of different issues like matting (tangles that will actually suffocate their skin because it gets so tight), dandruff, yeast, and other issues. Not to mention that the less grooming that is happening the more stressful it is when for your pet when it does occur. A good groomer works to ensure that the bathing, drying and entire service is as free from stress as possible not just for the pets benefit but for ours as well (they will learn to trust us and let us do more each time). ***Note that we are not medical professionals but we are professionals who have been working in the field a long time and picked up a thing or two. ***

How much should my pet get washed and groomed?

For dogs without skin issues it is suggested to get a bath every 30-40 days to maintain skin health. If they begin shedding or are itchy before this it may be time to book another appoint with the groomer. ***Note that itchiness after grooming may be a sign your pet is allergic to a product that was use. Contact their groomer A.S.A.P. for their evaluation (they may need to bathe them in a hypoallergenic shampoo). Long haired dogs must be brushed thoroughly at least once a week (make sure to get under arms, tail, and ears but be gentle because these are areas that are easy to cut or create hematomas. If you need to learn the proper way to brush you dog, do not be afraid to ask! The right groomer is more than happy to teach!

For dogs with skin issues please consult a veterinarian. They may need weekly bathes until skin issues resolve.

Long haired dogs at the very least require sanitary trims (cleaning up the paw pads, groin, butt areas). Double coated dogs do not get full hair coats unless they have a medical need! All other long haired dogs, it is suggested to get a full haircut in between bathes as to alternate them.

For cats without skin issues it is suggested to wash them every 2 or 3 months. Long haired cats can get tangled easily and their skin is quite fragile. Please keep their fur maintained by brushing them weekly. If they do not allow you to brush them it may be time to think about shaving them. Short haired cats need weekly brushing also to help keep fur balls at bay. A round rubber brush called a 'zoom groom' is great for this!

A healthy diet is also extremely important! If you have any questions about what is a good food consult your neighborhood pet food store for more questions. The big named pet places aren't always the best option but they can be easier on your pocket book. Look for high protein diets where carbs are not being used as fillers. If acid reflux becomes an issue, though, try adding fresh pumpkin (no sugar added, small curd cottage cheese, or pet safe goats milk (not the human kind but the ones found in pet food stores) to their diet.
